Park rules, road signs and useful words for moving safely around the city.
Each student gets one number. Say the English word, tap the card and check the Greek meaning.
Vocabulary exercises
Use: feed, play, litter, follow, pick, off, smoke, light, take, drink.
Write each word under park or street.
flowers, traffic lights, crossing, ducks, pavement, grass, road sign, path, bench, traffic warden, bin, seat belt
Choose the best sentence.
Student 1 says one rule. Student 2 repeats it and adds another rule.
Example: Don’t run across the street. Walk on the pavement.
Write 5 rules for your classroom or school yard. Use we can, we can’t, we must, we mustn’t.
Pick a card. Mime the rule. Your team says the sentence in English.
Example: You must stop. / You can’t park here.
Grammar Corner
English: We use the imperative to give rules, orders or instructions. The verb starts the sentence.
Ελληνικά: Χρησιμοποιούμε την προστακτική για κανόνες, οδηγίες και συμβουλές.
English: We use can for permission and can’t when something is not allowed.
Ελληνικά: Το can δείχνει ότι κάτι επιτρέπεται. Το can’t δείχνει ότι κάτι δεν επιτρέπεται.
English: We use must for obligation and strong rules. We use mustn’t for things that are forbidden.
Ελληνικά: Το must σημαίνει πρέπει. Το mustn’t σημαίνει δεν πρέπει / απαγορεύεται.
English: Ask and answer about rules with simple classroom language.
Ελληνικά: Μπορούμε να ρωτήσουμε τι επιτρέπεται ή τι πρέπει να κάνουμε.
Extra grammar practice
Use a different grammar form.
Write 6 sentences for a younger child. Use at least one sentence with each grammar point: can, can’t, must, mustn’t, Don’t, Always.
Project
Draw or find four road signs. Write one sentence for each sign.
Add a street, a crossing, traffic lights, a school and a park. Write 6 safety rules around your picture.
Use this pattern:
This is my city poster. Here you must… Here you can’t… Always…
