Present Perfect form

English: Use have/has + past participle for experiences, achievements and actions with a result now. Use have with I/you/we/they and has with he/she/it.

Ελληνικά: Χρησιμοποιούμε have/has + past participle για εμπειρίες, κατορθώματα και πράξεις που συνδέονται με το τώρα.

  • I have visited Athens.
  • She has helped save gorillas.
  • They have written an article.
  • He has climbed a mountain.

Past participles

English: Regular verbs use -ed, but many common verbs are irregular. Learn the third form: see-seen, write-written, go-gone, be-been, make-made.

  • visit – visited
  • see – seen
  • write – written
  • make – made
  • go – gone
  • be – been

ever in questions

English: Use ever in questions to ask about life experiences up to now.

  • Have you ever climbed a mountain?
  • Has she ever visited Dubai?
  • Have they ever seen a gorilla?
  • Have we ever made a class newspaper?

never for no experience

English: Use never to say that something has not happened at any time before now.

  • I have never visited Dubai.
  • He has never seen a gorilla.
  • They have never written an article.
  • She has never climbed a skyscraper.

already / yet

English: Use already for something that has happened sooner than expected. Use yet in questions and negative sentences, often at the end.

  • We have already made the poster.
  • She has already written the headline.
  • Have you finished yet?
  • They haven’t taken a photo yet.

Present Perfect negatives

English: Use haven’t / hasn’t + past participle for negative sentences.

  • I haven’t visited the rainforest.
  • He hasn’t written the article.
  • They haven’t interviewed the reporter.
  • She hasn’t seen that hotel yet.

Present Perfect questions

English: Use Have/Has + subject + past participle. Short answers use have/has or haven’t/hasn’t.

Ελληνικά: Στις ερωτήσεις βάζουμε Have/Has + υποκείμενο + past participle. Οι σύντομες απαντήσεις χρησιμοποιούν have/has.

  • Have you ever been to Dubai? Yes, I have.
  • Has he won a prize? No, he hasn’t.
  • Have they seen the photo? Yes, they have.
  • Has she written the report? No, she hasn’t.

Present Perfect vs Past Simple

English: Use Present Perfect when the exact time is not important. Use Past Simple when we say exactly when something happened.

  • I have visited London.
  • I visited London last year.
  • She has written an article.
  • She wrote an article yesterday.

Present Perfect form

English: Use have/has + past participle. The past participle can be regular or irregular.

Ελληνικά: Σχηματίζουμε Present Perfect με have/has + μετοχή.

  • We have visited a rainforest.
  • She has studied gorillas.
  • They have written a newspaper.

Questions and short answers

English: Put Have or Has before the subject. Use short answers.

  • Have you ever seen a gorilla? Yes, I have.
  • Has he visited Dubai? No, he hasn’t.

already / yet

English: Use already in positive sentences and yet in questions or negatives.

  • I have already finished the article.
  • Have you finished yet?
  • She hasn’t sent the photo yet.

for / since / how long

English: Use for with a period of time and since with the starting point.

  • She has studied gorillas for years.
  • He has lived here since 2020.
  • How long have you known him?

Present Perfect negatives

English: Use haven’t/hasn’t + past participle.

  • I haven’t visited Dubai.
  • She hasn’t seen a gorilla.
  • They haven’t finished the newspaper yet.
