1. Developed lesson routine (35–40 minutes)

Recognise capital and small letters, say the letter sound, and connect each sound with one easy word.

Time Stage What to do Teacher language
3′ Hello ABC warm-up Show 5 familiar letters. Children say letter name + sound. What letter is it? What sound?
5′ Watch & move Play one short alphabet/phonics video. Children copy actions or point to letters. Listen. Point. Say it with me.
7′ Focus letters Teach 4–5 letters only each lesson, e.g. A–E. Use capital + small letter cards. A, a, /a/, apple. Repeat.
5′ Air writing Children write the letter in the air, on desk, then in notebook. Big A in the air. Small a on your desk.
8′ Game practice Choose 1 game from the list below: Bingo, Letter Hunt, Pass the Letter, etc. Ready? Find /b/. Show me B.
5′ Mini production Children draw one word for the letter and copy the word. Draw an apple. Write A a apple.
2′ Exit ticket Each child says one letter, one sound, or one word before leaving. Tell me one letter!

2. Easy classroom games — expanded ideas

Letter Hunt

Hide letter cards around the room. Children find a card and say: “I found B. /b/ ball.”

Alphabet Bingo

Children write 6–9 letters. Call letter sounds or words. They cover the matching letter.

Pass the Letter

Pass a card while music plays. When music stops, the child says letter + sound + word.

Sound Detective

Say 3 words. Children stand up only when they hear the target sound: sun, cat, snake.

Capital & Small Match

Give capital letters to half the class and small letters to the others. They find their partner.

Letter Statues

Children make the letter shape with arms/fingers/body. Great for active classes.

Board Race

Two teams. Say a sound or word. One child from each team runs and touches/writes the letter.

Mystery Bag

Put small objects/pictures in a bag. Child takes one and says the first letter: pencil → P.

Alphabet Train

Each child adds one wagon: A apple, next child B ball, etc. Continue as far as they can.

Listen and Draw

Say a letter word: cat. Children draw it and write the first letter C/c.

Odd One Out

Write: ball, book, sun. Children circle the word that starts with a different sound.

Whisper Chain

Whisper a letter/word to the first child. It travels down the line. Last child writes it.
