Type 1 Conditional: real possibility

Εξήγηση: Το Type 1 μιλάει για κάτι πιθανό στο παρόν ή στο μέλλον.

Form: If + Present Simple, will + base verb

• If we go to the concert, we will hear live music.
• If you register early, you will get a place.
• If it rains, the festival will move indoors.

Type 1: negative sentences

Εξήγηση: Μπορούμε να έχουμε άρνηση στο if-clause ή στο result.

• If you don’t hurry, you will miss the concert.
• If she doesn’t save money, she won’t buy a guitar.
• We won’t attend the festival if we don’t book seats.

Type 1: questions

Εξήγηση: Στις ερωτήσεις κρατάμε την ίδια λογική: πιθανή κατάσταση + πιθανό αποτέλεσμα.

• What will you do if you win a ticket?
• Will you come if the concert is free?
• If your friend has a problem, what will you say?

If-clause order and comma

Εξήγηση: Αν το if-clause μπει πρώτο, βάζουμε κόμμα. Αν μπει δεύτερο, συνήθως δεν βάζουμε κόμμα.

• If we go to the festival, we will have fun.
• We will have fun if we go to the festival.
• If I have enough pocket money, I will buy a ticket.

Unless

Εξήγηση: Το unless σημαίνει “if not”. Δεν χρειάζεται δεύτερο not στην ίδια πρόταση.

• Unless you hurry, you will miss the concert.
• We won’t get tickets unless we book early.
• Unless you save money, you won’t buy the drums.

Type 2 Conditional: imaginary situation

Εξήγηση: Το Type 2 μιλάει για φανταστική, απίθανη ή δύσκολη κατάσταση στο παρόν/μέλλον.

Form: If + Past Simple, would + base verb

• If I had a little money, I would buy a guitar.
• If I were rich, I would travel around the world.
• If she won the lottery, she would help her family.

Type 2: If I were you

Εξήγηση: Για συμβουλές λέμε συχνά If I were you…. Είναι πιο φυσικό από “If I was you”.

• If I were you, I would save my pocket money.
• If I were you, I would talk to my parents.
• If I were you, I wouldn’t waste money on things I don’t need.

Would / could / might

Εξήγηση: Με would λέμε τι θα κάναμε. Με could λέμε τι θα μπορούσαμε. Με might λέμε τι ίσως κάναμε.

• I would buy a violin.
• I could join a music club.
• I might spend some money on a concert ticket.

Type 1 vs Type 2

Εξήγηση: Type 1 = πιθανό/ρεαλιστικό. Type 2 = φανταστικό/λιγότερο πιθανό.

• If I save money, I will buy a ticket.
• If I had more money, I would buy a piano.
• If we book early, we will attend the festival.
• If we lived in London, we would attend many concerts.

Common mistakes

Εξήγηση: Δεν βάζουμε will αμέσως μετά το if σε Type 1. Δεν βάζουμε would αμέσως μετά το if σε Type 2.

• Correct: If I have money, I will buy a ticket.
• Not: If I will have money…
• Correct: If I had money, I would buy a ticket.
• Not: If I would have money…

Advice with conditionals

Εξήγηση: Στο problem page μπορούμε να δώσουμε συμβουλή με Type 1 ή Type 2.

• If you save a little every week, you will have enough money.
• If I were you, I would make a budget.
• If your friend is upset, you should talk to them politely.

Εξήγηση: Στο Unit 8 τα conditionals βοηθούν να μιλήσουμε για φεστιβάλ, χαρτζιλίκι και φανταστικές επιλογές.

• If we attend the festival, we will learn about instruments.
• If I had a lot of pocket money, I would buy concert tickets.
• If the activity is free, more pupils will join.
