Possessives (Κτητικά)

We use possessives to show that something belongs to someone.

1. Possessive Adjectives (Κτητικά επίθετα)

Possessive adjectives come before a noun.

Examples

• This is my pencil. → Αυτό είναι το μολύβι μου.
• Her bag is red. → Η τσάντα της είναι κόκκινη.
• The dog is wagging its tail. → Ο σκύλος κουνάει την ουρά του.

2. Possessive Pronouns (Κτητικές αντωνυμίες)

Possessive pronouns stand alone. We do not put a noun after them.

Careful: Say This is my book OR This book is mine. Do not say This is mine book.

3. Possessive ’s (κτητική απόστροφος)

We use ’s to show that something belongs to a person or animal.

Examples

• This is Tom’s bike. → Αυτό είναι το ποδήλατο του Tom.
• The cat’s tail is long. → Η ουρά της γάτας είναι μακριά.
• The girls’ room is tidy. → Το δωμάτιο των κοριτσιών είναι τακτοποιημένο.

D. Rewrite the sentences.
